April 16, 2010, Newsletter Issue #324: Using Grandma´s Recipe?

Tip of the Week

Many old, old recipes used single acting baking powder and will not work with today´s double acting version, which produces carbon dioxide when exposed to liquid and when exposed to heat. Instead combine 2 tablespoons cream of tartar, 1 tablespoon baking soda and 1 tablespoon cornstarch. Use what you need and store the rest for next time.
