My baking powder has expired, can I still use it?

Is your baking powder too old to use?

If the dust you blew off the top of your baking powder container isn't enough proof that it is old, try this test to check if it is still usable. Mix one teaspoon powder with 1/3 cup of hot water. If the mixture doesn't foam, the powder is stale and should be replaced.

I just tested a can of Rumford baking powder that has a use by date of May 2007, it is now Aug 2011. It foamed up in the hot water! Go figure.
