What is a Fruit Grunt?

A Fruit Grunt is fruit topped with biscuit dough, covered, and baked so that the biscuits steam rather than bake. The texture of the biscuits resembles dumplings. This is also called a Slump.

A friend of mine has tried to explain to me what her grandmother use to make. She said it was like cobbler but the dough had the texture of like dumplings. I heard someone define the five types of cobblers, one of which was a "grunt."
